35 Young Eagles Flown!Young Eagles were from Acton, Bolton, Boylston, Maynard, Tewksbury, Waltham, Wilmington, Worcester and Pleasant Grove, VT.
Welcome to each and every one. A sincere word of thanks to the pilots, ground crew and those that helped coordinate the Young Eagles' visit to, from, and at Minute Man Air Field. An alphabetical list of Young Eagle's name followed by pilot's name and type aircraft flown follows:

It was great to have Lee Cooprider joining the Young Eagle pilots, and good to see familiar faces and planes from recent rallies and previous years active in 2002 Young Eagle flights.
Pilots and ground crew kept busy on land and in the air. Pre-flight procedures are a good part of a Young Eagle's experience and were included. Then there are the photographs. Hector Constantzos and John Weigel were busy with the Polaroid and digital cameras and getting certificates and posters to the Young Eagles (after Mary Smith had carefully filled certificates in). Jim Ellis and Mike Doyle escorted people to and from planes to look at planes and/or take pictures. Mary Smith and I (Betty-Lee Ward) kept busy at the registration table. Coordinator Charlie Smith very busy scheduling flights and introducing Young Eagles to their pilot. Many of us answered questions from parents, visitors and had some heart to heart talks with prospective Young Eagles.
It was a supportive and interested group of adults that accompanied the Young Eagles. Several Scouts and other youth helped pilots and ground crew set up the tent canopy, registration tables and chairs. Thank You.
We had a refreshing pitcher of ice-water from Nancy's Air Field Cafe; thank you, Nancy and staff. Thanks, too, to Don McPherson, Airport Manager, for his continued interest and support of the Young Eagles program. In looking over "The Downwind Flyer" issues from the past, I saw Don's name as piloting many a Young Eagle.
With everything put away for the day, nine pilots and ground crew flew to Jaffrey, NH for a visit. Fred Moses, Bill Greenberg and Nels Anderson flew their planes while Jan Nardone, John Weigel, Charlie Smith, Jim Ellis, Leo Hickey and Hector Constantzos went along for the ride and camaraderie.
35 Young Eagles may be the highest Chapter 196 has flown in one day. June 12, 2000 and again on September 9, 2000, each had 30 Young Eagles flown.
