Beautiful summer-like weather brought out a record number of Young Eagles
for the September 9, 2000 rally. All our pilots and ground crew were kept
busy right from the 9:00 a.m. start well past noon. Those magnificent men: Nels Anderson, Mike Doyle, Jim Ellis, Norman Landry, Tom McGee and Jeff Simon and their flying machines: Piper Archer, Cessna 172XP, Piper Cherokee 180, Cessna 150, Cessna 182 and Grumman AA-5 on September 9, 2000 flew 30 Young Eagles along with parents, scout leaders and a teacher.
Each Young Eagle sat in front next to the pilot in almost every flight. Boy
Scouts sit next to the pilot as part of a badge requirement.

Special thanks to Boy Scout Troop 500 from Woburn, MA for helping set up the registration area.
The enthusiastic response of the Young Eagles (boys and girls) and their hopes and plans to continue flying are wonderful. The love and joy of flying is neither male nor female. In part it is an uplifting freedom of being. A realization of one's own potential and that of others. "Up, up the long delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace..."
Thanks, too, to the pilots and ground crew who kept busy throughout the morning well past noon. Chapter 196 president Jon Engvall, Young Eagles coordinator Charlie Smith and Peter Benoit kept busy setting up and taking down registration tables, chairs and the canopy, giving airport tours, introducing youths to their pilots, taking photos, answering questions and concerns. We all, ground crew and pilots, enjoy talking with the adults and the young people sharing what we know and our love of flying with them.
Pilots and crew were invited to Nancy's Air Field Cafe for a cold drink between flights and duties. Thank you, Nancy, and Don McPherson. Don brought cold drinks to the gals at the registration table.
We appreciate all the help we had at the registration table. Welcome back from Alaska Mary Smith, and it was a joy to have Judy McGee with us again this month. We all kept very busy.
We received a very nice letter from Robert M. Lilly, Advancement Chairman for Boy Scout Troup 500 in which he thanks the chapter and also mentions an article about the rally that will appear in the Woburn Daily Times Chronicle. Read his letter here.
